As the trend of demanding employees return to in-person work intensifies, Life360 is setting itself apart by maintaining a commitment to remote work. Antonoff emphasized in an interview with Business Insider that Life360’s approach is firmly rooted in a “remote-first” philosophy, and there are no plans to alter this stance. She believes that the foundation of effective remote work doesn’t hinge solely on enhancing virtual meetings but rather on fostering meaningful in-person interactions when necessary.
“The secret of making remote work isn’t better online meetings; it’s more in-person meetings,” Antonoff stated. Instead of allocating resources to physical office spaces, Life360 redirected its budget toward facilitating travel for team members to meet face-to-face.
During the discussion, Antonoff highlighted her location at a Deskpass coworking space, indicating that some engineering leaders had gathered there. She noted that these meetings serve crucial purposes, allowing teams to “get to know each other” and collaboratively address complex challenges.
“The return-to-office movements are like forcing individuals to sit next to each other while involved in Zoom calls,” she remarked. “That approach lacks logic.” Life360 joins a selective group of companies that embrace a remote work culture. Her experience also extends to GoDaddy, where she was the president overseeing the U.S. small business segment, noting that productivity thrived during the pandemic. Another innovative aspect of Antonoff’s leadership is Life360’s policy of synchronized vacations, where approximately 500 employees take a week off together, except for essential staff members.
Antonoff described typical vacations as a “mixed blessing,” where employees often return to overflowing inboxes. Unlike other workplaces, Life360 ensures that staff can truly disconnect and recharge without fear of missing important updates. “It’s like the best vacation you’ve ever had because it’s a real vacation,” Antonoff asserted.
