Following the introduction of its messaging feature last August, Spotify is now launching group chat functionality. The company revealed this week that users can now share podcasts, playlists, and audiobooks with up to 10 individuals.
Chats can only be initiated with users with whom you have previously shared content. For instance, if you have a collaborative playlist or have participated in a Jam or Blend together, you can commence a conversation with that individual.
This development aligns with Spotify’s ongoing efforts to enhance the social experience within its streaming application. Over time, the platform has incorporated a range of social features, such as comments on podcasts and the ability to follow users to see their listening habits.
Spotify has also emphasized that users should continue to share content externally, as the messaging feature is designed to complement those interactions.
Messages transmitted through the platform are encrypted both at rest and in transit; however, they do not benefit from end-to-end encryption.
