Grubhub is taking significant steps to enhance its competitive standing against rivals DoorDash and Uber Eats.
On Monday, Grubhub introduced both its Super Bowl 2026 advertisement and a noteworthy policy change: effective soon, all delivery and service fees will be waived for restaurant orders exceeding $50. This initiative has the potential to provide substantial savings for customers and boost Grubhub’s attractiveness in a highly competitive market.
The new Super Bowl commercial features actor George Clooney at an opulent dinner party. When the host dramatically inquires, “Who will absorb the fees?” Clooney replies, “Grubhub will absorb the fees.”
Grubhub asserts that this offering is designed to permanently place more funds back into customers’ hands during these economically challenging times. The company highlights that delivery and service fees for orders over $50 typically average around $13 per transaction across various food delivery services.
Grubhub’s initiative to eliminate fees on all orders exceeding $50 is a distinctive proposition within the food delivery sector. Neither DoorDash nor Uber Eats provides a permanent exemption from delivery and service fees for large orders. Their promotions tend to be time-limited or linked to paid subscription services (such as DashPass or Uber One), which often apply only to select restaurants or come with additional stipulations.
Moreover, this new policy arrives at a time when Grubhub is grappling with user growth challenges and remains behind its competitors. Acquired by Marc Lore’s Wonder Group in 2024, the company experienced a 20% decline in monthly active users year-over-year in 2025, reducing its user base to 8 million, according to marketing intelligence firm Sensor Tower. In contrast, DoorDash boasts nearly 50 million monthly active users.
