The entire amount was settled in cryptocurrency with an undisclosed seller, setting a new benchmark in the domain marketplace. Marszalek intends to unveil the new site during the upcoming Super Bowl, providing users with a personal AI agent designed to enhance messaging, app navigation, and stock trading experiences. He emphasized the long-term potential of AI, stating, “If you take a long-term view — 10 to 20 years — [AI] is going to be one of the greatest technological waves of our lifetime,” according to the FT.

Previously, the title of the most expensive domain was held by CarInsurance.com at $49.7 million (2010), followed by VacationRentals.com ($35 million in 2007) and Voice.com ($30 million in 2019). Other notable sales include PrivateJet.com ($30 million), 360.com ($17 million), and Sex.com, which changed hands twice for over $13 million, though the latter’s second owner faced financial difficulties attempting to monetize it.
“Assets like AI.com are irreplaceable,” Fischer remarked to the FT. “When an opportunity like this arises, it may never come again.”
As for the prospects of such high-value domains delivering a return on investment, that remains uncertain. Nevertheless, for Marszalek, who also owns Crypto.com and invested $700 million in stadium naming rights, the ownership of two iconic domains seems justifiable for his vision.
