Last year, Roblox unveiled an open-source AI model designed to generate 3D objects on its platform, facilitating swift digital item creation, including furniture, vehicles, and accessories. According to company claims, the tool, named Cube 3D, has enabled users to produce over 1.8 million 3D objects since its launch in March.
On Wednesday, the company introduced the open beta of its highly anticipated 4D creation feature, which empowers creators to craft not only static 3D models but also fully functional, interactive objects. This feature has been in early access since November.
Roblox states that 4D creation introduces a vital new dimension: interactivity. With this technology, users can design objects that move and respond to player actions within the game.
At the launch, there are two types of object templates, known as schemas, available for creators to experiment with.
The first is the “Car-5” schema, designed to create a car composed of five distinct parts: the main body and four wheels. Previously, vehicles were represented as a single, solid 3D object incapable of movement. The new system disassembles objects into components and assigns individual behaviors, allowing for realistic features such as spinning wheels.
The second template, named “Body-1,” can generate objects created from a single piece, such as a simple box or a sculpture.
The inaugural experience utilizing 4D generation is a game titled Wish Master, where players can create drivable cars, flyable planes, and even dragons.

In the future, Roblox plans to enable creators to develop their own schemas, providing greater freedom in defining object behaviors. The company is also advancing new technology that could generate detailed 3D models based on reference images, aligning with the style of those images.

The company also indicates it is working on additional methodologies to assist users in creating games and experiences through AI, including a project referred to as “real-time dreaming.” Roblox CEO David Baszucki elaborated last month that this initiative would enable creators to assemble new worlds by leveraging “keyboard navigation and sharing real-time text prompts.”
The open beta follows Roblox’s implementation of mandatory facial verification for users wishing to access chat functionalities within the game, a move made in response to lawsuits and investigations concerning child safety.
